In everything we do: Innovation
What does it take to grow the highest quality hops in the heart of Wisconsin? Whatever it takes.
Growing the highest quality hops takes patience, a desire to check on the plants each and every day, and experience in dealing with whatever Mother Nature throws your way. It takes a dedication to the craft; utilizing Best Management Practices to control weeds, insects, pests, and diseases. But most of all, it takes passion.
Passion fuels our drive to go the extra mile. To always be experimenting and never being satisfied with what works — our mission is to find what works best. Here are just a few of our innovative practices:
- We’re on the forefront of in-bine pesticide treatment through chemigation, which controls harmful insects without endangering beneficial insects that work in harmony
with the hops.
- We have pioneered a strategy for annually incorporating separated manure fiber from a local dairy into our hopyard. An excellent source of organic nutrients, the fiber
also improves the tilth of the hop yard to promote soil aeration, water holding capacity and overall soil health — for great root growth and vigorous establishment.
- We are constantly experimenting with tillage and plant canopy management as methods to control weeds, insects, pests, and disease.
- We send hop samples to ASBC certified labs to determine optimum harvest time for peak hop quality.
- We constantly adjust our harvesting, drying, and storage procedures and equipment to assure that hop cones consistently maintain the quality that we have nurtured throughout the growing season.
